HLAC - Lifelong Wellness Application Paper
Name: Carla Valdez Course: Cross Fit
Date: 08/01/2014
1. What did you learn about “lifelong wellness” from taking this class?
I learned that I can always push and challenge myself to do more than what I think I can do. Especially with crossfit, I realized that my body can do much more than what I think it is possible but I just need to have that in my mind because it is all mental. Every obstacle or “can’t” is in my mind because I can accomplish anything I determine myself to accomplish. It is a truly satisfying feeling to realize what my body can do know that it could not do a few weeks ago.
2. How has learning about and applying “lifelong wellness” concepts impacted your life (home, school, work, etc…)?
I feel like I have learned to be more consistent and it has made me want to challenge myself in every way possible on a daily basis in every aspect of my life. It has also taught me to put my excuses aside because if I really want to reach a goal I will have to make the time to accomplish that goal. Another great way “lifelong wellness” has impacted my life is the motivation I have found to be more active and live a healthy life. Now I try to watch what I eat and make healthier choices, and I want to learn more about fitness.
3. What is your intention to continue to exercise in your life and why?
I want to keep exercising at least five times a week and learn knew workouts. I intend to continue doing crossfit during the fall. The reason I want to incorporate fitness in my daily life is because I love and enjoy the feeling during and after I work out. I feel like exercise is the best therapy for anything and it keeps you healthy (physically and mentally).
4. General ideas for improving this course?
I really enjoyed this class; I would only say to make it a longer course because I feel like there was not enough time to learn enough about this great sport.
