| Reflection With this assignment I learned that although two people are from the same ethnic group they can have completely different experiences in this country. I was lucky to come to this country in good circumstances. On the other hand Jacky came here to escape and as a single mother of three children. However, Jacky and her family blended in with the American culture very easily, I would say easier and faster than my family and I did. I learned that one of the biggest difficulties and barriers for people that come to the U.S from another country is definitely language, as well as maintaining one’s culture, especially in state where about 80 percent of the population is Caucasian like it is in Utah. This assignment also helped me change my understanding of the world. Everyone in the United States has a different experience here and that has to do sometimes with race, age, sexual orientation, disabilities, etc. After this assignment I definitely consider myself privileged. |
