![]() | The Humanities I
took Humanities because I find interesting to understand us as humans more and
understand why other people do the things they do. The humanities is the study
of the human culture using analytical, critical or speculative methods. Throughout
the semester we studies human culture in different context, such as in the
romantic, the religious, racial and the political context. As well as studying
inequality among cultures and identity. For
my final project I was asked to choose a theme that we have studied during the
semester and portray it in a creative way. I did a drawing and I chose the
theme of inequality and identity. I chose this theme because I think that
people can be treated unequal because of their racial background or their
religion or even their way of thinking. Also those things are what help you
identify yourself, for instance someone can identify themselves as a Black
conservative Muslim. I thought this theme implied a piece of everything I have
learned throughout the semester. My
drawing is a face that is divided in two, one side is the half face of a black
male, and the other half is a white female. The black man is a Jew, which is
not usual to find a black Jew, although I am sure they exist. As humans it is
our nature to have a tendency to be prejudice, negative or positive. When we
think of a Jew, we think of a light skinned person, with a big nose and
involved in business. The white female is a Christian, and instead of regular
earrings she has gages in her ear, which give her some identity. When we see a
person with gages and tattoos, we assume they are probably school dropouts,
they are more on the crazy side, we assume they are carefree and probably not
belong to any religion. That is how society identifies these people, which of
course might not be true at all.
I
fused both faces into one because I believe that it does not matter what religion
you belong to or political party, racial group or your gender, at the end of
the day we are all the same race: the human race. We all love, on our own way
of course, we cry, we prejudge, we belong to a culture, we all have the same
qualities as humans. |
